1Project Deliverables for 2004

1.1OpenNet Hotspots
Partially staffed - through June - CSD - MA - project

• June: Base Open Net Hotspot(s) in Jokkmokk

• August: At least 2 Remote Hotspots

  • Status:

    • 1 additional hotspot in planning

    • 2^nd hotspot on hold for financial reasons

• October: Connection by point to point relay of anchor hotspot in

  • Jokkmokk

  • Remote hotspots in the summer lands

  • Status

    • On Track for relay between Jokkmokk and one remote hotspot

1.2Relay:
Not yet staffed

• October: Simple SMTP Relay. Use of off the shelf computers, laptops and wifi.

  • Status: moving directly to SMTP- Bundle gateway

• December: SMTP - Bundle ALG

  • No relay routing

  • Status: Using sendmail bundle mailers on track for test by December

1.3Routing
Partially staffed

• Done - Simulation of Prophet algorithm

• June - Prophet routing protocol – draft

  • Status: Slipped until September. Due week of 12 September

• June - Leggo simulation of prophet algorithm (MA project)

• November - Prophet routing protocol prototype

  • Status: On track for 2 independent implementation by MA students: one at LTU and one at ITU

• December - Prophet Protocol Lab Tests

1.4Topographical Mapping and Network Planning Tool:
Staffed

• April: First mock-up. The intention is here to demonstrate the kind of results produced by the network planning tool.

  • Status: done

• September: First prototype, using not unrealistic assumptions.

  • Status: Slipped to February

• December: Second prototype, where important models have been improved.

1.5WEB Caching
Not staffed

September: Study initiated

• Status: Initial discussion on strategy held at UU in August. Further discussions planned for October/November

1.6Hardware
Not Staffed

• September: Document the requirements for SNC relays and gateway. The analysis should include power, configuration, ruggedizing. Analysis should also include details of wifi utilization, including range, and the ability to realistically increase range though shaping and power within SNC constraints.

• Status: Pending on availability of staff to handle this

• December: Design construction requirements and budget for equipment for the second year based on September’s analysis

1.7Documentation
Not Staffed

• September: Produce initial Tiki containing SNC documentation, training material, downloads etc.

• Status: Initial Tiki available at: www.hotspot.sapmi.net

1.8Training
Not Staffed

• June: Training in Hotspot setup

  • Status: done

2Goals for Year 2:

• Field test of Prophet (routing) relays in summer lands (mesh routing of bundles)

  • Specialized hardware to be used in test installations

  • Initial test of relay installation –

    • multiple remote hotspots

    • fixed relays

    • mobile relays

  • Mapping and Location of Fixed Gateways using topographical tool

• Develop and Deploy WEB Caching

• Develop ALGs for Bundle to Apps (Apps yet to be determined, e.g FTP)

• Minor modifications to topographical network planning tool, due to change requests.
